Freedesk is a Swedish company that designs and manufactures portable desk risers, height-adjustable wooden desk frames that turn any table into a sit-stand workstation. The company was founded in 2016 by Stefan Westergård in southern Sweden and is now based in Malmö. Freedesk sells directly to customers through its own online store across the EU, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Switzerland.
Our story
When Freedesk was founded in 2016, portable sit-stand solutions were a new idea. Height-adjustable desks existed in offices, but at home, where more and more people were starting to work, there was no simple way to stand up and work without buying an entirely new piece of furniture. Stefan Westergård’s idea was a stand that sits on top of the table you already have: no assembly, no electricity, no new furniture.
Ten years later, the basic idea remains the same. Every Freedesk Desk Riser is built on the same principles as the first: carefully selected materials, quiet mechanics, and a design made to last for many years.
Where is Freedesk made?
All Freedesk Desk Risers are designed in Sweden and manufactured in Oskarshamn, Småland, in collaboration with the furniture maker Formakök. We build them from FSC-certified wood from responsibly managed forestry, with a small number of metal components and no electronics at all. The construction is detachable, making it easy to repair and possible to reuse.
We have consciously chosen to leave out the things that make many height-adjustable desks complicated: motors, cabling, plastic parts, and long transport chains. That makes the product simpler and the manufacturing more transparent.
A small company, close to its customers
Freedesk is a small team based in Malmö. We mainly sell through our own online store, which gives us direct contact with our customers, from the first question to delivery and support. That is also why we dare to offer a one-year warranty, 30 days of free returns, and free shipping within the EU and the UK: we know what we send out.
