Sustainability at Freedesk: fewer materials, shorter transport, longer lifespan

Freedesk Desk Riser is a portable sit-stand solution made in Oskarshamn, Sweden, from FSC-certified wood. Our sustainability work is based on three concrete choices: few and renewable materials, local manufacturing with short transport distances, and a construction without electronics that is built to last for many years and can be disassembled when it has reached the end of its life.

Wood instead of motors, plastic, and electronics

Most height-adjustable desks consist of a mix of metal, plastic, and electronics. Materials made in different factories, often on different continents, and that are difficult to separate during recycling. Freedesk Desk Riser goes the other way: the frame is made entirely of FSC-certified wood from responsible forestry, complemented by a few plastic and metal components in the locking mechanism. No motor, no cables, no electronics that can break or need to become electronic waste.

Made in Sweden

Every Freedesk Desk Riser is made in southern Sweden. Local production provides three concrete advantages: short transport distances from factory to customer in Europe, full visibility into the entire production chain, and the ability to visit the manufacturing site and resolve quality issues directly, instead of through intermediaries on the other side of the world.

Built to last and to be taken apart

The most sustainable product is the one that doesn’t need to be replaced. Freedesk Desk Riser is designed with quiet, mechanical height adjustment without wearing parts such as motors or electronics, and the entire construction can be dismantled. This makes it possible to repair, gives the components a chance at new life, and makes material recycling easier when the product is eventually phased out.

Actions over promises

We believe in concrete choices over big words. Freedesk is a small company, and our sustainability work is about making a difference where we actually can: in material choices, in manufacturing, and in the product’s lifespan. It is ongoing work, and we would rather talk about what we do than what we promise.
